Fun filled afternoon at HATO for ‘KLM Cockpit Kids’

KLM_CAPWILLEMSTAD - KLM and Curaçao Airport Partners joined forces to offer the children residing at the local children’s convalescent sanctuary Siloam an unforgettable afternoon at Curaçao International Airport. The group of precious children received the honorary name ‘KLM Cockpit Kids’ and got the unique chance to get a tour on the runway, visit the fire brigade, enjoy VIP treatment in the VIP Lounge, and as icing on the cake got to visit the Captain of the 747 KLM airplane in the cockpit.

Saturday afternoon the group of 8 children of the ages varying from 4 to 16 years old, accompanied by their supervisors, were welcomed at the airport by the KLM and CAP crew for a special Airport Experience. After checking in and receiving a boarding pass like real passengers do, the ‘KLM Cockpit Kids’ were allowed to follow their luggage, adventurously finding out what really happens behind the scenes when you check in your suitcase. Hereafter the children passed immigration and continued their tour outside, where the Airport Bus was waiting for them, and sure enough, they got a tour of the runway and even got to experience the landing of the KLM Boeing 747-400  up close.

The tour continued on board the aircraft where the children took a seat in KLM’s World Business Class and had their 15 minutes of fame in the seat of the captain! After enjoying their, especially by KLM’s Goddard Catering created, meal in the VIP lounge and receiving special gifts from KLM and Curaçao Airport Partners, the ‘KLM Cockpit Kids’ watched the KLM aircraft as it got “pushed back” and experienced the take off of the Boeing 747-400 from just yards away.

KLM and Curaçao Airport Partners are grateful to have been allowed to offer the ‘KLM Cockpit Kids’ an unforgettable experience.
