Good to know: First black athlete to win swimming medal in the Olympics was from Curaçao

EnithWILLEMSTAD - Enith Sijtje Maria Brigitha (born April 15, 1955 in Willemstad, Curaçao) was the first black athlete to win a swimming medal in the Olympics.

No other black female swimmer won an individual medal in the Olympic Games for 40 years, until American Simone Manuel in 2016 tied for gold and set an Olympic record with Canadian Penny Oleksiak in the 100m freestyle.
