Hilton Curaçao celebrates Hilton’s annual global week of service

Team Members take Hilton’s innovation and influence to communities to drive positive change.

Hilton_Global_ServiceWILLEMSTAD - During Hilton’s annual Global Week of Service, more than 50 volunteers from Hilton Curacao have extend their expertise in service and hospitality to the wider community and to help organizations in need on the island. For nearly 100 years, Hilton has seen a world that can be made better through genuine hospitality. Hilton Curacao’s efforts are a part of Hilton’s weeklong celebration recognizing the company’s year-round commitment to serving and enriching the communities where Team Members live, work and travel.

“This year we have decided to direct our focus primarily on children. Child development sets the foundation for lifelong learning & behavior. Therefore we wanted to impact organizations who are part of children’s experiences, life and development on the island,” said Stephane Clar, General Manager at Hilton Curaçao.

The global week of Service started with a fundraising together with local artists Enjoy by Carolina, Serena's Art Factory and Jurina for the foundation "Fundashon duna lus" a birth center on the island. On day two, our engineering team gave a helping hand with different projects at a local scouting center “John F. Kennedy Scouting Centre", such as rebuilding their basketball hoop. On Thursday, volunteers contributed to “save the ocean” by doing an ocean cleanup therefore the children have an extra clean environment to swim in.

Throughout the rest of the week several activities where organized for 3 different local orphanages (Casa Manita, Huize St. Jozef and Kinderoorden Brakkaput). A fun movie night with gifts was organized for 41 children, a behind the scene’s tour with a view of the inside operations of a hotel, a housekeeping workshop and a fundraising carwash to raise funds for school uniforms.

In May, Hilton committed to cutting its environmental footprint in half and doubling its social impact investment by 2030. With this commitment, Hilton plans to reduce water usage by 50 percent and is committed to removing plastic straws from all of its 650 managed hotels globally. Hilton will save an estimated 35 million straws per year from potentially ending up in the ocean.

The company will also double the amount it spends with local and minority-owned suppliers, and double its investment in programs to help women and youth around the world. These goals are part of Hilton’s Travel with Purpose corporate responsibility strategy to further the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
