In the spirit of International Alzheimer’s Day, Skempi is collaborating with Maduro & Curiel’s Bank to donate Mp3 players with local music to Alzheimer patients

skempieWILLEMSTAD - Research has shown music can be very conducive to stimulating memory function in the brain. Therefore, working closely with branding partner Maduro & Curiel’s Bank, Skempi initiated a project in which they collected local music with the goal of donating them to Alzheimer's patients. This is all part of the centenary celebrations of MCB.

The initial inspiration for this project came to the Skempi team by way of a movie that was organized by Mel’s Bliss at Hòfi Cas Còrá and which was held at the latter. They screened the film ‘Alive Inside’ which dealt with the issue of music and Alzheimer’s patients.

As a Caribbean music platform, Skempi already has an extensive catalogue of Antillean classics in musical stylings like the Tumba, Danza, Wals, and Bolero. Hence they and Maduro & Curiel’s Bank gave Alzheimer's patients the opportunity to create a personal playlist with artists like Kimu Candelaria, Padú Del Caribe, Edgar Palm and Jose Casseres. They did this while working closely with a music expert. With this project, they hope to help Alzheimer’s patients on the island recollect pleasant memories long forgotten and all of the good feelings associated with them.

On September 21, the International Alzheimer's Day, Maduro & Curiel’s Bank and Skempi donated 100 Mp3 Players to Kas Hugenholtz, Stichting Alzheimer, Music Therapy Center Curaçao, Fundashon Birgen di Rosario, Capriles Kliniek, and CliniClowns.
