Martina shines at ceremony
AMSTERDAM - It was an evening of two faces for the Curaçao sprinter Churandy Martina. After his European title in the 100 meters on Thursday, the 32-year-old Curaçao-born won again a day later in the 200 meters.
Martina won the final as well, but just like the Olympic Games in Beijing (2008), he stepped on the white line of his lane. It was so obvious that he was disqualified. Just as in Beijing.
Martina accepted the decision and two hours later he made a deep bowed for the many fans who had come to the celebration of the 100 meters outside the Olympic Stadium. There he received the gold medal he had won a day earlier with a magnificent final pass. Many here in Curaçao expressed in social media how proud they are of this Curaçao sprinter.
