Scuba Lodge Dive Center unveils new Scuba Bus, customized Volkswagen T1 from 1974

DSCF9638WILLEMSTAD - On Thursday, August 16th, the team of Scuba Lodge Dive Center unveiled their new Scuba Bus, a refurbished Volkswagen T1 from 1974. The bus was unveiled during a crowded happy hour at City Beach 88 in the Pietermaai District. The dive center, which is part of boutique hotel Scuba Lodge & Ocean Suites, will be using their new bus to drive guests to and from different shore diving sites that Curaçao offers.
The interior features seating for up to 6 people and a special rack where divers can store their tanks. The exterior paint-job is a bright red with white accents, replicating the famous diving flag. On both sides, right above the windows, the bus has 'Scuba Lodge Dive Center Pietermaai' written on it.
The bus was customized by KombiBrazil and then shipped from Brazil to Curaçao.
"The bus is fully customized to our needs. We told KombiBrazil what we had in mind and what we wanted our Volkswagen T1 to look like. The bus turned out exactly how I had visualized it," says Daan Drechsel, Manager of Scuba Lodge Dive Center. "Actually, it might be even better than I had visualized it. Not only did they build us a tank rack, they even put our company's name on it!"
Last year, the dive center already unveiled their refurbished American school bus which was named 'Scuba Bus' after a poll on social media let followers vote on their favorite names.
"Being transferred to and from different beaches in a school bus or Volkswagen T1 is an aspect that really adds to the Curaçao experience from our guests. They're not just going diving or snorkeling; they have something more that enriches their trip. It's definitely more unique and memorable than a pick-up truck or van," says Drechsel.
