An early father’s day experience at Sunscape Curaçao
I’m a single father of two boys, 8 and 5 and every year I plan something fun and different to do around father’s day. I love Curaçao, I was born and raised on this beautiful island, but I know that activities for children are very limited. This is why I was so pleasantly surprised and excited when I received an invitation to spend three days, two nights at the all-inclusive Sunscape Curaçao Resort.
My boys and I arrived at the hotel and were greeted with the “what can we do for you” attitude, which I’ve never experienced here on the island. Mind you, I’ve never stayed in a hotel on the island before. I always thought it was a waste of money. But every time I travel, and I do travel a lot, I see how the service is at hotels in the various countries I visit and I wonder how it is here on my own island. I’ve read many reviews and there are mixed feelings about it. At Sunscape, I had my first experience with the service of the local people. I must say, for me, it was top notch. Very kind and always willing to do something extra for you. This is good, because it can get a bit irksome, especially for the staff when you have children who don’t know what they want to drink or eat.
We stayed in Building 2 on the 4th floor. Our room, as others in the hotel, has fully opening patio doors to go out to the balcony. In my opinion, we had the best view ever. We can see the pool area, the beach, Willemstad and more. We had two VERY nice queen beds, table, nice closet and a newly remodeled bathroom. My kids were in heaven. I asked them if they liked it, and their reply was “Dad, we don’t want to leave this place ever. We should come live here.”
My favorite part of the whole experience was the children’s club, the Explorer’s Club© with tons of activities for the kids. I observed several were having too much fun to get picked up by their parents. They wanted to stay. My children, even forgot that I existed. On our second day we signed up for the camp out. The staff reminded me that the Explorer’s Club© is only for kids! “Sorry, no parents allowed in the club.” I was a bit nervous to leave my children there, but at the end, I was able to see that they had the time of their lives. Even today, more than a week later, they still talk about it.
The food was good. I really liked the buffet. Oceania for seafood and Himitsu for Japanese cuisine. They even cook in front of you. It was a good show. Each meal is soup, sushi, steak, chicken, fish, and veggies and grill cooked noodles. These were the best. I really enjoyed eating at all the locations. But my favorite of all were the desserts. Those little cakes really made me go for more.
There is so much going on at Sunscape Resort, but I still had the time to relax at the pool, bake in the sun and play in the water with my children. Truly an awesome experience that we recommend to not only tourists, but also the locals who want to get out of the routine of life.
