CTB is worried about tourism

CTBWILLEMSTAD - Two large hotels (Kura Hulanda Otrabanda and Kura Hulanda Lodge) were recently declared bankrupt which caused many employees to lose their jobs. The Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) is deeply concerned about the effect this may have on tourism. Acting President of the CTB, Hugo Clarinda, says that the agency is currently in deliberations with Curacao Hospitality and Tourism Association (CHATA) and the government to look for specific solutions.

"There are currently a number of hotels in a difficult sitution, so something must be done and quickly," Clarinda stressed. "We think this is because even though there are more tourists who are coming to the island, but the stay over tourist is choosing other possibilities for accommodations. That means more tourists are staying in apartments instead of hotels."

Clarinda expects within two weeks to sit down again with the Minister of Tourism to discuss the situation.
