Curaçao to Host International Scientific Diving Symposium

WILLEMSTAD – Dutch Caribbean Business - Later this year the island of Curaçao will host a joint international scientific diving symposium from October 23 through 27. The symposium is organized by theAmerican Academy of Underwater Sciences and the European Scientific Diving Panel.

The 2012 AAUS Symposium, held in Monterey, California was declared a great success by participants. Topics ranged from diving California’s kelp forests, learning about organism collection techniques and rebreathers to workshops on Diving First Aid for Professional Divers and cylinder inspection.

The Joint International Scientific Diving Symposium Committee is now accepting abstracts for the Symposium. Electronic submission of 300-word abstracts are accepted until April 15.

The mission of the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) is to facilitate the development of safe and productive scientific divers through education, research, advocacy, and the advancement of standards for scientific diving practices, certifications, and operations.

The objectives of the European Scientific Diving Panel (ESDP) are (1) to encourage international mobility in the European scientific diving community through the implementation of a practical support framework, (2) to promote safety in scientific diving across Europe and (3) to advance underwater scientific excellence in Europe.
