De Telegraaf very positive about Curacao

WillemstadTHE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD – There was a very positive article in the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf Reiskrant (Travel Gazette) on 10 Reasons to visit Curacao. According to the Reiskrant the island of Curacao has so much to offer that a top ten is not difficult to make. The list according to the Telegraph:

1. Sun, sun and more sun

Since we do not always have good weather here, Curacao with an average temperature of 27 degrees and very sunny climate, is a nice holiday destination.

2. Cozy and colorful locals

Curaçao has only 150,000 inhabitants, but the number of spoken languages ​​is impressive. The locals speak Dutch, Papiamento, English and Spanish fluently. This mix gives a multicultural atmosphere of the island and especially Papiamento sounds cheerful and cozy.

3. With your feet in the sand

On this relatively small island more than 35 beaches and coves can be found. There is something for everyone: cozy crowded beaches with genuine Caribbean hospitality or you find yourself in an oasis of tranquility in a secluded bay with clear blue sea.

4. Diving Spot "The Tugboat"

There are for diving enthusiasts more than 65 designated dive spots. Even the most avid divers don’t get bored fast. Near the resort there is 'The Tugboat' , covered with impressive coral formations. The old tug is no less than 25 years at 7 meters depth in the Caracas Bay. This dive spot offers a spectacular diving experience between moray eels, trumpet fish, angel fish, scorpion fish, crabs and tube coral.

5. Culinary paradise

Curacao, and in particular Willemstad, is a culinary paradise with a wide range of pubs, restaurants, fine dining and local markets. There are the best local delicacies and also many international dishes.

6. Honeymoon hotspot

The idyllic beaches and luxury resorts offer any newlywed couple's romance and relaxation which they are looking for. It is also possible to get married, for example, in a resort on the island.

7. Party!

Besides the famous carnival Curacao offers an impressive list of events. From the North Sea Jazz festival to the Heineken Regatta, there is something for everyone to find a party.

8. Underwater world

Besides good diving, Curaçao is also known for swimming with dolphins. There is the opportunity to learn more about marine life in Curacao Sea Aquarium. Curacao is also one of the few destinations in the world where you can dive with a submarine. With the Curasub you can make a dive between 150 and 300 feet deep.

9. Relaxation

Besides all the activities, Curacao also offers the possibility of a relaxing wellness holiday. Extensive use is made of local products (such as aloe vera) and healing herbs.

10. UNESCO World Heritage

The historic center of Willemstad and the port have been included on the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Over 750 unique buildings, sites and monuments fall below Willemstad and making it a lovely place to wander through. The rich culture of the island is still visible in the colonial buildings, plantations, forts, museums and Mikve Israel-Emanuel Synagogue, the oldest Western synagogue still in use.
