First visit Viking Sea to Curaçao

CPA3WILLEMSTAD - The cruise ship Viking Sea made its first visit to Curaçao last Wednesday. The first contact between representatives of Viking Ocean Cruises Ltd. and Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) took place during the conference of Seatrade Cruise Global 2016 in Ft. Lauderdale. During this meeting, the Port Operations Manager of Viking Ocean Cruises, Mr. Nicolai Skogland, indicated that the company is expanding its fleet and that there is interest in the Caribbean region.

On Wednesday it was time for Curaçao to see the entrance of the Viking Sea into its harbor. The ship was docked at the Mathey yard. CPA’s Chief Operations Officer Albert Zwueste, accompanied by representatives of the Curaçao Tourist Board, Curoil and other guests, went on board to welcome the captain, crew and passengers of the ship.

Wednesday was also a great day for the cruise season in Curaçao. Almost 10,000 cruise tourists visited the islands Crown Princess was docked at Tula Pier, Carnival Vista at Ernest Jacky Voges Pier and Viking Sea at Mathey yard.

Cruise tourism has an extremely important role in the overall figures of the tourism industry in Curaçao; often the tourists return to the island to enjoy a longer holiday period. The cruise ship Viking Sea will return to Curaçao on February 12 next year.
