Hilton Hotel Curaçao – truly a “wow” hotel on the island
WILLEMSTAD – My children and I decided it was time to relax from our rushed daily agenda of going to school, do homework, work, write articles, interviewing people and running after interesting stories to share on Curaçao Chronicle. So we decided to contact the Hilton Hotel Curaçao for a weekend stay.
For me it is important to see my two sons, 9 and 6, enjoy themselves. So to see their reaction when we arrived at the Hilton Hotel was priceless. I could sum it up in one word (I don’t know if it’s a word, but more like a reaction), WOW! Yes, “wow” to everything. When they arrived and they saw all those people, the bars, the beach, the swimming pool, the building and all that food, it was “wow” for them. Then came the
best part, the service. The service at the hotel reception was exceptional. They knew we were coming and had everything ready for the three of us. Another “wow” moment was when we entered our room on the fifth floor. We even had two slices of chocolate cakes waiting for us. Needless to say that I only had a little piece, because my boys were all over them.
Even though it’s a hotel on the island, it was still a different world for us. It’s about 15 minutes drive from our home, but we’ve never had the opportunity to stay there or to enjoy all the great services the hotel has to offer.
First of all the restaurants. Our first night we ate at the Celeste Beach Bar. This restaurant is new. Why do I know that? Because I was there at the opening. This restaurant is open daily for lunch and from Wednesday through Sunday for dinner. Celeste beach bar was the ideal spot for us to recharge after our beach experience. All three of us had the virgin colada. The restaurant has an extensive lunch and dinner menu with the best Caribbean and Latin specialties with grill and daily fresh specials offered together with exotic cocktails and delicious wines.
You also have Bligh’s Bar. My youngest son really liked this bar because they also serve chicken nuggets and French fries. It’s the perfect place to unwind at the end of the day
Then you have the Cielo Restaurant. For a gourmet Italian meal that goes beyond ordinary cuisine, you have to visit this open-air restaurant. Here, you will delight in fresh homemade pastas and risotto and savour fine wines while the breath taking sunset and gentle island breezes create the most heavenly ambiance.
The breakfast at the hotel was also superb. I must say though, get there early if you want a good spot. It can get crowded, but it’s also worth it. There is a great variety to choose from and it taste really good.
There is a nice little beach at the hotel. We stayed there for about an hour. It’s nice, clean and very cozy, but my children wanted to swim in the pool. I mean there are beaches all over the island. Sitting at the swimming pool sipping piña colada and talking to newly found friends was just what I needed to relax. What a life! If you want a more spacious beach, Hilton has that to offer also. Just walk alongside the coast heading east and there you will find the Moomba Beach. Very nice with white sand and crystal clear water.
When we read the reviews many former guests of the hotel talked about the outdated look of the building. I like to call it more of a retro style building. It’s part of the island’s history. I’ve known this building since I can remember. It’s unique and it will always be part of Curaçao’s unique style. But I’ve also learned that soon the whole building will be renovated. I do hope they do keep a little of its unique architecture.
Like I mentioned before, it is important for me to see my children enjoy themselves and Hilton Hotel Curaçao really did it for me. What a “wow” hotel!
