The United Nations designated 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism Development. In the context of the universal Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the International Year has promoted the change in policy, business practices and consumer behavior towards more sustainable tourism sector can contribute to the 17 ODS.

2017 has offered a unique opportunity to explore and highlight the potential of tourism to help transform our world into a place of prosperity and welfare for all. As one of the largest socio-economic sectors and fastest growing of our time, tourism can stimulate economic growth, create decent jobs and business opportunities, helping millions of people to escape poverty and improve their livelihoods .

The Closing Ceremony will IY2017 the international community to commit to universal Agenda 2030 for sustainable development through tourism, nationally and globally. 

The closure IY2017 is not only the end of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, but the most important thing is that the initiatives and actions started in 2017 willprovide a roadmap for the global community in general adopt sustainable practices and maximize participation in the global development agenda.

The event will take stock of achievements and progress in promoting tourism and, more importantly, provide the global community a way to the future with the introduction of a tourism and ODS platform. The Platform will provide from 2018 until 2030, a space for sharing and co-creation so that the sector can adopt the Agenda 2030 and contribute to a prosperous and sustainable future for people and the planet.
