Tourism figures fluctuate

CTBWILLEMSTAD – The number of tourists who, in the months of March and April of this year, stayed on the island for more than 24 hours has increased by respectively 11 and 5 percent, reports the Curavao Tourist Board (CTB).

The number of tourists from North America, who spent more than 24 hours on the island, 8,059 people in total, has increased by 10 percent in March and 6 percent in April. The number of tourists from South America totaled 10,623 in March, an increase of 28 percent compared to last year.

In April, the growth slowed to 1 percent. The tourism  from Europe saw is a slight decrease of 1 percent in March. In the case of tourists from the Netherlands, there was even a decrease of 9 percent. In April, there was an increase of 1 percent of tourists from Europe and a slight increase of 2 percent of Dutch tourists.

The month of April saw 36,514 tourists visiting our island, which is an increase of 5 percent of the so-called “stay over” arrivals. Cruise tourism experienced in March this year, a slight decrease of 2 percent, while there is an increase of 20percent in April. In March, 35 cruise ships visited the island, in total there were 69.251 tourists. April registered a 20 percent increase in cruise tourism. In April, 28 cruise ships visited the island and last year that number was 25.
