IATA exceeds 3,000 million passengers for the first time

Inside cabinWILLEMSTAD - The first day of the New Year commercial aviation celebrated 100 years of existence. On January 1, 1914, Tony Jannus conducted the first commercial flight ever, connecting the cities of St. Petersburg and Tampa, Florida, United States.

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) today air transport employs over 57 million people and its direct contribution to Gross Domestic Product-GDP is € 400.000 million. By 2014 it is expected that the number of passengers reaches 3,300 million.

IATA has planned various activities to commemorate the centenary, highlighting the role of commercial aviation to transform the world.
