St. Maarten’s Winair to wet-lease an A320 in 1Q18

P1080913PHILIPSBURG - Winair (WM, St. Maarten) Vice President and Director (Marketing & Sales), Claudio Buncamper, has confirmed the St. Maarten-based carrier will wet-lease in A320 capacity to run its 2x weekly Port au Prince-St. Maarten service.

In a statement to ch-aviation, Buncamper said the aircraft would be sourced from Sunrise Airways (S6, Port au Prince) which, at present, wet-leases one A320-200 from South Africa's Global Aviation Operations (GE, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo). Operations are to begin from January 13 onwards replacing PAWA Dominicana equipment currently used on the route.

Winair also operates four DHC-6-300s and has sourced capacity from other carriers in the past including Air Antilles (an ATR42) and PAWA Dominicana (an MD-80).

The wet-lease with PAWA concludes on January 13 when Winair will last offer services from Curacao to both Port au Prince and St. Maarten using the McDonnell Douglas operated by its Dominican partner.
