Banks do not want to surrender interest on savings

Bank notesWILLEMSTAD - The banks in Curaçao still refuse to cooperate with a tax on savings. The government wants to introduce this measure in order to tax income from interest and dividends.

Now there are only 6 million guilders collected by the tax authorities, while more than 60 million can be earned on the taxation of savings. Insurers are still negotiating. They may be required to annually inform the government about annuities, insurance payments on death and donations.
