New manager for European Development Funds Caribbean

European CommissionWILLEMSTAD - European subsidy funds from the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) for Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius will be managed by the International Management Group (IMG). Executive organization USONA is here no longer involved. This is according to the Caribbean Network.

The choice of a new management organization was needed, because the European Commission notified the Netherlands on January 7, 2013 that they no longer want to work with USONA. The change to another organization was needed to ensure that the islands can still receive funds from the European Development Fund.

The Dutch government and SONA’s management have not heard anything about the results of the investigation conducted by the European research bureau OLAF into possible misuse of grant funds. This investigation has brought embarrassment t state representative Wilbert Stolte since he was treasurer at SONA during that period.

This is apparent from a letter by Minister Ronald Plasterk Kingdom Relations sent to the Dutch Parliament on September 12 of this year. USONA will however, continue to remain responsible for managing the money from the ninth European Development Fund (EDF), Plasterk said.
