Tourism tax law is in the making

TourismWILLEMSTAD – As we have announced before, the Government of Curaçao, through the Minister of Economic Development, has proposed to introduce a tourism tax law. The aim is to charge 10 to 15 dollars on each ticket to Curaçao. This new law will be called ‘the tourist tax’.

This new tourist tax is currently in the making and will be presented to parliament soon for approval. Once it is approved, the world body International Air Transport Association (IATA) will start charging this tax. The IATA will then transfer these funds to the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB).

According to the CTB they will use these funds to improve air links to the islands. They will also fund the tourist police to help improve the safety of each visitor on the island. They will also invest in the promotion of the island.
