VBC warns for consequences reparation law BZV

WillemstadWILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Business Association (VBC) has now responded to the adoption of the reparation law basic health insurance (BZV) through a press release.

According to the VBC, this new law will not lead to the improvement of the entire health care system and the BZV fund, which is now in serious financial problems as announced by both the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Ben Whiteman and the Minister of Finance, Dr. Jose Jardim.

The situation is now exacerbated, believes the employers' organization, by expanding the facilities package on one side and the abolition of the nominal premium and the reduction of premiums for retirees on the other.

According to the VBC, the Ministers and the MPs were motivated by political populism in their discussion during the parliamentary meeting on this basic health insurance. The measures undermine confidence in the economy and will further erode the BZV fund, which is contrary to what the Minister of Finance said during his intervention in parliament.

The employers' organization sees the structural solution of the whole insurance issue in the establishment of a General Health Insurance. With an affordable amenities package and implemented by competing insurers and financed by levying a nominal premium.
