Participation of local Windsurfers in the upcoming IFCA World Championship in Spain

10376318_10152203307687972_988859079469248999_nWILLEMSTAD - This year the IFCA Junior, Youth and Masters Windsurfing Slalom World Championship will take place from June 16 to June 21 at Roses, Spain.  This time again,our local and talented windsurfers Stefan de Bell (11 years old), Jean Paul Da Silva De Goes (15 years old and IFCA 2013 World Champion U-15), Milan Gielingh (18 years old) and Jean Patrick van der Wolde (18 years old and IFCA 2011 World Champion U-17), will be proudly representing our “Dushi” Curacao.  From our sister island, participating for Bonaire will be Aron Etmon (16 years old and IFCA 2012 World Champion U-15) and Oscar Etmon (14 years old).

Even though this is a hard competition with participants from all around the world,Curacao Team for IFCA the expectations of coming home with prizes are really high, due to the high level and preparation of our young athletes.

Bonaire Team FlagOur local athletes demonstrated their talent recently during the international competition “Curacao Challenge 2014” which took place on the weekend of May 29, in front of Directors bay at Caracasbaai, where Jean Paul, Milan and Jean Patrick conquered high places on the podium, and therefore showing once again that they belong to the top group of local and international athletes.  Even though the conditions were severe, with strong winds and very high waves, in the Windsurfing Slalom Ocean Class, Jean Paul Da Silva De Goes won 1st place in the Up-to-17 class, Jean Patrick van der Wolde won 2nd place in the 18+ class, and Milan Gielingh won 3rd place also in the 18+ class. Stefan de Bell was too young to participate on the open ocean, but he also demonstrated his talent at Spanish waters bay. Stefan, the youngest of the group, will participate for the first time in a World Championship.
