Colombia, a leading health destination in Latin America with presence in the Caribbean

Colombia, a South American country recognized by the quality of its high complexity procedures, the expertise of its medical-scientific personnel and its advanced hospital infrastructure, will be offering conferences about preventing the most common illnesses in Aruba and Curacao.

colombian_flagBOGOTA - Avianca and Procolombia have joined efforts to bring together prestigious Colombian medical institutions in Aruba and Curacao, with the purpose of giving information to the community about obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular illnesses in children and adults, dental care and plastic & reconstructive surgery. The participating institutions are: Clínica Imbanaco (Cali), Clínica Las Américas (Medellin), Clínica Shaio (Bogotá), Oral Láser (Medellin), Fundación Cardiovascular de Colombia (Bucaramanga) and Fundación Oftalmológica de Santander – Foscal (Bucaramanga).

Colombia is a consolidated medical destination in the Caribbean and Ecuador, and patients arriving there from Panama, the United States, Peru, Canada and the Northern Triangle grows every year.

According to data provided by the Colombian Immigration Agency, the arrivals of international passengers whose purpose of travel is health, has grown 22.9% every year, from 6,281 tourists in 2012 to 14,339 tourists in 2016.

The cities of Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena and Bucaramanga have the widest offer for international patients looking for high standards in healthcare services with in treatments such as ophthalmology, cardiology, dentistry, neurology, digestive illnesses, orthopedics and oncology.

A country with different development hubs means more options for international patients that are looking for specialized healthcare services, with an advanced hospital infrastructure, variety and high quality of medical offer.

Medical services in Colombia can be 40% cheaper than in the United Stated according to an investigation made by Procolombia. Besides that, the country has a privileged geographic position with access to the whole continent and highly trained human resources, confirmed by international organizations like Joint Commission International that has certified five hospitals for their patient care standards.

Twenty two hospitals in the country are among the best 43 hospitals in Latin America according to a ranking made by América Economía.
