Concrete plans to tackle copper theft

CopperWILLEMSTAD - Officials from the Ministry of Justice, Curacao Police Corps (KPC), the Public Prosecution, Aqualectra, UTS and Flow came together in a meeting to address the issue of copper theft in Curaçao and to make plans to combat this as effectively as possible

One of the measures to minimize copper theft is that the police will assist Aqualectra and Flow with security advice.

Starting today, people can report copper theft to the police via the emergency number 917. Citizens are asked to be alert and if there is danger, a possible copper theft, immediately call 917.

The Ministry of Justice is currently working together with the abovementioned group on more long-term solutions. For example, an export ban on copper was considered and that companies that buy copper are required to get a permit.
