Detention former Minister of Finance extended

Jamaloodin3WILLEMSTAD - The custody of former Minister of Finance George Jamaloodin has been extended again by eight days. Prosecutor Guillano Schoop reports that the examining magistrate has decided this at the request of the Public Prosecution Service (OM).

After Jamaloodin was handed over by the Venezuelan authorities to the Curaçao Arrest Team in mid-September, he was immediately detained and put into custody. That was extended on September 21 with eight days. The Public Prosecution had made a claim for detention and at the same time, the defense of the former minister made a request to suspend their client. The examining magistrate rejected the latter request and agreed to the extension of the detention by eight days.

Those sixteen days together are the maximum duration of detention. If the Public Prosecution Service then believes that Jamaloodin still has to remain behind bars pending the investigation, they have to file a special petition to the court of justice.
