Eight Venezuelans on hunger strike

Prison CuracaoWILLEMSTAD - Eight Venezuelan women, one of whom is pregnant, started a hunger strike yesterday. They are in the barracks of the SDKK prison which were especially build to hold illegal immigrants while they wait for their deportation.

These 8 women want to stay in Curaçao, but the Ministry of Justice sees them as an economic refugee and plans to deport them tomorrow. Hunger strike or not.

Minister Quincy Girigorie refuses to comply with the call from the refugee organization UNHCR to treat Venezuelans as refugees and to give them shelter.
