Gold Heist suspect free but still a suspect

Court houseWILLEMSTAD –  Guiseppe Pizziolo, one of the defendants in the gold robbery case regained his freedom this week. This is according to has Norman Serphos, the spokesman of the Public Prosecutor (OM). Notwithstanding his release, Pizziolo remains one of the main suspects in this case. T

Pizziolo’ s lawyer, Marije Vaders, has since the arrest of her client, been trying every week to get him out of jail. The court said every time however, that the accused should remain in custody. There was aother request on Tuesday to release Pizziolo treated and Wednesday the court said that it was no longer necessary to keep the suspect in custody. Two weeks ago a Venezuelan woman was released. She is also still a suspect in the case. Currently there are seven suspects in this case. Five of them are still in custody.

In November 2012, seventy gold rods, with a total weight of 216 pounds and a value of 11.5 million dollars, were stolen. The robbers threatened the three crew members and the captain, all from Guyana, with firearms.
