Judge rules in favor or Police Chief Wernet

WernetWILLEMSTAD – The Chief of Police has been vindicated. Since December 10 last year, he was suspended, but the judge says that there is no reason to doubt his reliability and credibility.

Minister of Justice Nelson Navarro placed Marlon Wernet on administrative leave, after one of the suspects in the Helmin Wiels case had committed suicide in a police cell in Barber. On December 10, the Minister’s decision was converted into a suspension of three months, which was extended for another three months, on March 11. Reasons for the suspension were contradictory statements and dealing well with responsibilities. This is according to the government in their case against Wernet.

In addition to lifting the suspension, Wernet also get a sum of 2,800 guilders for the legal costs incurred. If Wernet will simply return as police chief is unclear. The government has 30 days to appeal the court’s decision.
