Lawyer for arrested Curaçao brothers in Wiels’ case warns OM for ‘tunnel vision’

Court of JusticeWILLEMSTAD – Alicia Blonk, lawyer for the brothers V.S.M. and HDM, responded in a press release to recent reports on the case against her clients, who were arrested after posting a threatening video on the popular video website YouTube. The brothers are still suspects in the murder case of Helmin Wiels.

“OM may not get tunnel vision by pressure from society to quickly resolve the murder.”

The brothers deny 'strongly that they have anything to do with this murder, nor do the controversial video on YouTube has anything to do with this murder. The film was only intended as a threat, "said the press release.

When asked what was the purpose of the video, Blonk reacts today, Wednesday, May 15, 2013, to the Dutch news site that she cannot say. 'At the moment this is not wise. "

"The Prosecution is of course under great pressure to solve this case and lock down the perpetrators of the murder as soon as possible. This should not mean that the Public Prosecutor (OM) gets tunnel vision gathers evidences to accuse the brothers for the murder. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty," writes Blonk in her press release.

Blonk says further that the timing of the video was indeed wrong. In contrast, she argues that the brothers did not confess to the murder in the video. According to the lawyer, the video contains mere ‘imagery, and nothing literal’. “If the link (between the murder and the video) is laid, then I understand the interpretation. But that link is not there”, says Blonk.
