OM: First arrest for unpaid traffic fines

Public ProsecutorWILLEMSTAD - The first defaulter of the Public Prosecution (OM) has been detained today to serve time behind bars (due to non-payment of fines). It concerns the man J.G.U. (1994). During a regular police check, he was caught with dark tinted windows. He was not in possession of an identification or a valid driving license.

During the further inspection, it turned that he had outstanding fines. The total turned out to be 5.790 guilders. For this reason, the Public Prosecutor immediately ordered his arrest and he was transferred to prison. He must now spend one day for every 50 guilders.

This policy of the Public Prosecution will continue. Anyone who has not paid, while an irrevocable judgment has been made against him or her, runs the risk of ending up in jail for not paying fines.
