OM increased fines for calling while driving and seatbelts

policeWILLEMSTAD - The police will start tackling driving without a seatbelt. Those who get caught must pay a fine of 250 guilders starting January 1. Currently, it is 75 guilders.

If the driver doesn’t pay and he or she goes to court, the public prosecutor can demand 300 guilders for driving without a seatbelt.

The Public Prosecution also announced that talking on the cellphone while driving will also be dealt with. Drivers will have to pay 250 guilders if caught talking on the cellphone while behind the wheels.

According to the Public Prosecution, this situation is getting out of hand and something must be done.
