SMOC files complaint at OM

WILLEMSTAD – The Clean Environment Foundation Curaçao (Smoc) filed a complaint at the Public Prosecution (OM). Smoc wants the OM to start a criminal investigation into the oil / environmental disaster at Jan Kok and demand the culprits of the disaster to appear in court.

"More than six weeks after the oil spill, there is still no studies on this environmental disaster," said Smoc chairman Peter van Leeuwen. "There is a remarkable secretive attitude about the cause and the consequence of this disaster. It is important that the cause of this disaster will be prosecuted. "

enough evidence
According to Smoc there is enough evidence and a confession by the spokesperson of the oil refinery and there is no doubt that they are the cause. "Because the refinery did not respond immediately , the oil reached the salt pans of Jan Kok and caused serious damage to the flora and fauna."
