Three people convicted of driving under the influence

Court houseWILLEMSTAD - Three people were convicted this week of driving under the influence of alcohol. A man who caused an accident in Saliña on December 31 was sentenced to a fine of 1000 guilders.

A woman who was drunk behind the wheel during a traffic check on June 19 this year and was not in possession of a driving license, was fined 1250 guilders. And a man who drove in the wrong direction in a one-way street in August last year and caused an accident was fined 1,000, of which 800 guilders conditional and 2 years’ probation.

The spokesman for the Public Prosecutor Norman Serphos states that the Public Prosecution (OM) had not demanded imprisonment because no injuries or deaths had occurred. "If this was the case, it would have been different and we will also demand a higher sentence." The penalties that have now been imposed are roughly equivalent to the demands of the Public Prosecution.
