Traffic fatalities continue to increase

WILLEMSTAD - The number of traffic fatalities in Curaçao has increased in recent years and has been around 20 victims per year in the last three years. This is shown in the report "The State of Law Enforcement Curaçao 2017" of the Council for Law Enforcement.

The highest number of traffic victims in the last 13 years was in 2004; the island then registered 30 traffic casualties. In 2012 there were the least casualties: 12 people lost their lives in traffic. Since 2012, the number of traffic deaths has increased.

The Public Prosecution states that the lack of cooperation is an important factor in the increasing number.

It also deprives the necessary inter-ministerial cooperation. They emphasize that investments must be made in road safety.
