Alleged bomb threat on Inselair flight out of Miami

Insel Air ArubaWILLEMSTAD – On Saturday June 29th, 2013, the flight 7I908 MIA-BON suffered a delay due to an alleged bomb threat by two passengers boarding the flight. Initial action was taken in compliance with standard procedures in place for these circumstances. Insel Air International Security Program Bomb Threat Procedures were activated in concert with ULTRA Security Services and the MIAMI Dade Airport Authority.

Formal investigation and interrogation of the suspects learned that the cause of the alert was a misunderstood piece of conversation between a father and son confirming whether or not  they had remembered to take along the car fuel pump. In  Spanish  a fuel pump is called a "bomba de combustible". Passengers overhearing this conversation interpreted the Spanish word "bomba" as "bomb" , which triggered all security measures.  After verification of the  contents of the luggage of the passengers involved, which included a fuel pump, the authorities neutralized the threat and released the aircraft for normal operation.
