Aqualectra discussing solar panels with price regulators

solar pilot projectWILLEMSTAD – Darick Jonis, Director of the utility company Aqualectra, said that they are discussing solar panels with the price regulators Bureau Telecommunication Post & Utilties (BTP&U). The cause for these discussions comes after the utility company received heavy criticism from various sectors in the community, after they made the decision to stop giving permits to install solar panels.

Aqualectra must buy the overproduction of these individuals or companies at a rate that is higher than the average rate of generating electricity by the company.

This was the reason for Aqualectra to indicate in a letter to the BTP&U that they can’t give a positive advice on applications for the installation of solar panels, which are processed by the BTP&U.

In response, the regulator states that according to the concession agreement dated 2012, Aqualectra cannot do this.

BTP & U also proposes to structurally increase Aqualectra’s basic tariff to prevent loss of income.
