Aqualectra SB to blame for financial debacle

AqualectraWILLEMSTAD - The Supervisory Board of Aqualectra who was appointed by the Schotte-cabinet is largely to blame for the financial debacle of the utility company. This was reported by the local Dutch newspaper Antilliaans Dagblad based on a document from a senior official at Aqualectra.

The prosecution had used this document in the application to the Court for a survey in a number of public limited companies. That request has been granted. The Board of Aqualectra, according to the document,  had followed a disastrous policy on personnel. Thus, a large number of so-called 'temporary' employees were taken in service on December 1. That same month, another 100 people were employed. In February 2012 it was decided to hire another 150 employees by June of that year. They  would be used in the 'Change Management' program, which actually was stopped. The decisions of the  Board were at odds with the policy to reduce the staff in order to lower the price of water and electricity.
