Central Bank will investigate new gold coin

wheel-clampWILLEMSTAD - The new gold coins, which are in circulation since this year, do not work in different machines on the island. The parking service Parking Authority Curaçao (PAC) can do nothing other than providing service as well as possible. The Central Bank (CBCS) has launched an investigation.

According to PAC manager George Strick, the new guilder coins are not accepted in the parking meter because they are lighter than the old coins. According to Strickland the Central Bank saw it coming. He would have liked to see the Central Bank give information to the parking service on the new currency. “They didn’t say anything to us. We still do our best to give good service to those who park in downtown.”

According to Strick the problem with the new coins is exaggerated. “We panic way too fast here on the island and that is completely unnecessary. Soon we will solve the problem,” Strick said. To indicate that the problem is not confined to 'his' parking meters, Strick emphasized that cigarette and condom vending machines do not accept the new currency.
