Coast guard investigation: ‘Degradation after accident’

Coast GuardWILLEMSTAD – The internal investigation related to the July 2 accident in which the Coast Guard was involved has been completed. The Port Security Inspectorate (HVI) has also conducted its own investigation. Both investigations conclude that there is serious culpability of a driver of the Super-RHIB's involved.

The director decided to recommend to the Minister of Justice to demote the guilty coast guard from boatswain to quartermaster. If it is up to the director, this officer will not be eligible for a promotion for two years. He must also qualify himself again to work on a Super-RHIB again.

No dismissal

The Director Coast Guard did consider the possibility to dismiss this officer, but did not do so since this officer has shown an exemplary behavior and was always fully committed to the Coast Guard.
