Commemorative coins for first King’s day

Willem Alexander 1THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD – A five guilder coin will be in circulation starting tomorrow to commemorate the first King’s day which is on April 27 of this year. The coin's front will display a double portrait of King Willem Alexander and Princess Beatrix (former Queen). Twenty thousand coins will be released for Curacao and Sint Maarten.

Ten thousand of these coins will have the Curacao flag on one side. The other ten thousand will feature a color illustration of the Saint Martin’s flag.

The coin is the same as the normal 5 guilder coins and shows the arms of the Netherlands Antilles, the denomination, the coat of arms, the words Netherlands Antilles, the date and the mint master mark.

Collector’s item

These coins will come into circulation through the usual channels. The coins will be part of the normal order of the commercial banks, and so will end up in the public’s hands. Both coins are distributed on both islands and are, due to the limited edition, a collector’s item. In addition, there is also a 5 - guilder coin silver and 10 guilder gold coin available.


The cause of the issue is reflected in upward letters: inauguration April 30, 2013. The year 2013 also acts as the issuance date of the coin. The sales prices for silver and gold commemorative coins are 100 and 475 guilders respectively. The coins can be purchased at the cashier department of the Central Bank.
