Complaints about behavior Immigration at airport

Curacao AirportWILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB), the hotel sector and Curaçao Hospitality and Tourism Association (CHATA) have sounded the alarm. They are concerned about the way the immigration department at the Hato airport treats the arriving tourists.

This complaint from these organizations is following a verbal shouting match from an immigration officer to a tourist couple, because they had not completed their entry form correctly. The sector receives complaints from tourists at least twice a week about their treatment at the airport.

According to a CTB official, they have filed a complaint about this serious problem to the Minister of Economic Development, who in turn has requested his colleague the Minister of Justice to help in this matter. The Immigration Department falls under the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice.

The CTB official indicated that the Immigration officers did receive training in the past and that he cannot understand why they behave in such way, but that it has to change.

Curaçao Chronicle has also received various complaints about Immigration officers at the airport. One visitor even indicated to us that the gate to paradise, meaning the airport, looks like hell.
