Concerned citizens wants contract extension Inspector Huurman

Jan HuurmanWILLEMSTAD - Inspector of Healthcare Jan Huurman’s contract of is almost over, but not everyone is confident about what happens next.  L.van Tatenhove, victim of a botched gallbladder surgery and R.Martina, whose father passed away after a stomach reduction surgery, fears that supervision is in jeopardy. This is what they wrote in a letter to Health Minister Ben Whiteman.

Inspector General for Health Joe Alcala gave as a reason for the departure of Huurman that it is time to find someone locally. According to Alcalá, his department has already received several applications. But Van Tatenhove and Martina are not convinced that Huurman’s position will soon filled by a competent Inspector and Deputy Inspector. "Before Huurman was appointed in August 2012, there was no competent inspector and there was no monitoring of the health care institutions on the island. This situation should never occur again," said the troubled letter writers. They ask initially for the extension of Huurman’s contract.
