Cooperation on energy is positive

Darick JonisWILLEMSTAD – The director of the utility company, Aqualectra, Mrs. Darick Jonis stated that he sees advantages in the intentions of closer cooperation in the area of energy in the Kingdom.

During the inter-parliamentary dialogue IPKO two weeks ago, the delegations of Curacao and Aruba indicated that their countries want to cooperate in various areas regarding energy in the Leeward Islands. This cooperation includes, among other things, organizational, technical cooperation, sustainable development and financial cooperation.

The delegations decided to propose to their respective governments to include on the agenda of the next Kingdom Conference, the cooperation in the field of energy, including geothermal. Jonis said that Curacao does not have the resources to conduct certain researches on various forms of renewable energy such as Ocean Terminal Energy Conversion "(OTEC).

Cooperation will also focus on geothermal energy in the Windward Islands.

The Dutch delegation will ask the Minister of Economic Affairs of the Netherlands for the active participation of the Netherlands in the next phase of the TNO research on Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten.
