Council on request Parliament majority

WILLEMSTAD - By letter of August 28, 2012 twelve members of Parliament requested from the Governor of Curaçao to start a consultation round with the aim to form an interim cabinet.

All this is consequence of the Parliament meeting which was suspended on August 24, 2012, the dissolving of Parliament on August 3, 2012 and the resignation of Prime Minister Schotte and his cabinet also on August 3, 2012.

The competence of the Parliament or the Governor to take steps that should lead to the formation of an interim cabinet, is disputed by some. This is a situation, where there is, in a sense, a deadlock between Government and Parliament.

Before taking on the request from these members of Parliament, the Governor invited Mr. C.M. Grüning and Mr. R.P. Koeijers to advise him on the matter after having heard the opinion of all the actors involved.

The council must be given at the earliest possible date, but no later than September 5, 2012.
