Court sets date for case against former Giro Bank Director

GarciaWILLEMSTAD - The Court of First Instance decided yesterday that the criminal case against former Girobank director Eric Garcia will be treated on September 14 this year in the morning.

Garcia’s legal councilor made the request to hear more witnesses.

According to counsel, hearing these witnesses is important because it makes clear whether the money has benefited Garcia. Among the witnesses is the person who would have coordinated the shares of Giro Holding. Garcia’s lawyer assured the court yesterday that this witness will release new information in the case.

Garcia is charged with embezzlement in the position of curator, forgery and money laundering. He would have misappropriated money as bankruptcy trustee in the bankruptcy of Banco Maracaibo.

The former Director of the Girobank last year declared that he had lent the money he had misappropriated in the bankruptcy of Banco Maracaibo to IIG TOF Holdings (now Giro Holdings nv) to co-finance 58 percent of the shares in Girobank nv.
