CPA will manage taxis at cruise ships

Cruiseschip-CPA-500x399WILLEMSTAD - Each time six taxis in and no more. That is the proposal made by the Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA).

CPA wants to prevent chaotic situations when cruise ships are docked in the harbor and at the mega pier in Otrabanda. Taxi drivers jostle to pick up cruise tourists. CPA is fed up with this situation and wants to introduce now this proposal. The taxi drivers will not only get a special pass to get into the cruise terminal, there will also be a dispatcher who will coordinate the pickups and whose turn it is to get in.

The president of the taxi union already announced that at the end of this month he will have a general membership meeting to announce these measures taken by CPA. “Not everyone likes to have rules imposed on them, but I have to admit that the situation is getting out of hand. Everyone is trying to make a living, but this cannot be at the cost of the image of the island,” the union leader said.
