Cubans in Curacao write letter to MPs

Cubans protestWILLEMSTAD - The nearly fifty Cubans, awaiting their residence documents for nearly a year, now have delivered a letter to the Members of Parliament today. The Minister of Justice has promised them a residence permit, but that promise has not been fulfilled yet.

The group has been on the island for years now. According to the law, foreigners who apply for a residency permit must await approval outside of Curacao. The problem with these Cubans is that their homeland does not allow them to return. Thus, they find themselves without a country to call home.

After the Cubans gave a letter to the Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Minister Navarro indicated that he will make an exception for this group.

Through this action, the Cubans want to ask for attention for their issue. Now they have involved Parliament in it and hopefully it will be resolved as soon as possible as was promised by the Minister of Justice.
