Curacao wants to profit from expansion Panama Canal

Panama-Canal-2014-Expansion-AerialWILLEMSTAD - Curacao wants to take advantage of the expansion of the Panama Canal, linking the Caribbean to the Pacific. In 2015, the widened channel will be taken into use. Curaçao plays, because of the relatively short distance, an important intermediate roll for shipping to and from the Panama Canal.

During the government headed by former Prime Minister, Gerrit Schotte, Curacao lost its basis for tugboat operations in Panama. The Business sector in Curaçao wants the island to pick up the thread again. The expansion project of the Panama Canal is currently halted because it has exceeded the budget.
