Delegation to Venezuela to talk about debt to InselAir

inselairWILLEMSTAD, CARACAS - Minister of Finance Kenneth Gijsberta traveled with a delegation to Venezuela this week. The delegation is going to talk about the money that the South American country owes to the local aviation company InselAir.

For Curaçao, this amounts to a total of 67 million dollars: for Aruba 23 million. Gijsberta hopes to achieve something so that the airline can move forward again and expand its flight schedule.

The economic and political crisis in Venezuela is one of the reasons that InselAir is in a dire financial situation. Despite cuts and investments from the last few years, InselAir is not on top of it yet. This week an aircraft had to make an emergency landing in St. Maarten because it had problems with one of its engines. Subsidiary InselAir Aruba has already been declared bankrupt.
