Dr. Huurman: Minister Whiteman shouldn’t sit on Inspector’s seat

Jan HuurmanWILLEMSTAD –“The same thing Ben Whiteman fought when he resorted under Minister Jacintha Constancia, he’s now doing to me.” This is what Dr. Jan Huurman said after he received a stern letter from Minister Whiteman on his intervention in vascular surgery in Curacao. “A Minister should not mingle with the work of the Health Inspector who is here to guarantee quality in health care,” this is according to Huurman who will depart from Curacao in the next 24 hours.

Dr. Huurman insists that Curacao needs at least two vascular surgeons considering the serious problems with diabetes and obesity.

Dr. Huurman’s contract expired last Friday May 3. “The problem is that there is no guarantee for continuity. Different investigations that are pending will be halted. I ask myself everyday who my successor will be,” Dr. Huurman stated.

In just a few days, Dr. Huurman received 1500 signatures of people who want to see him stay. It’s seems that their petition will not be granted.
