Dutch Navy and U.S. Coast Guard intercepted 1,500 kg marijuana

US Coast GuardWILLEMSTAD – The Royal Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard have intercepted a smuggling boat in the past week. They prevented the transport of about 1,500 kilos of marijuana from Jamaica to Guyana. Five crew members were arrested.

The patrol was led by the commander of Task Group 4.4, one of the duties of the Commander of the Navy in the Caribbean.


The USCGC Northland discovered, during a patrol in the Caribbean Sea, a ship, the An-Nur, of Guyanese descent. The ship was invaded and 21 bales of marijuana were found during the search. They were all taken aboard the USCGC Northland which they will be shipped to Puerto Rico. The smugglers will be tried in the United States.
